Sustainable Contents
We've addressed environmental concerns from beginning to end. To help reduce our impact on the environment, Dow has developed BIOBALANCE™ Polymers to be used in commercial carpet backing applications. These polyurethane polymers are manufactured with a portion of the polyol coming from a sustainable, annually renewable resource (for example, soybean plants), which reduces our dependence on petroleum-based products. Our polyurethane backing technology also contains pre-consumer materials and allows carpet manufacturers to add post-consumer content.

Sustaining the Life of Carpet
Perhaps most importantly, Dow polyurethane backing technology helps carpet last longer. It creates a distinct molecular structure, forming a polymeric bond between the primary and secondary backing. The result is a unified composite material that helps improve the performance of carpet, helping it stand up to intense foot and rolling traffic, spills, heavy furniture and much more. In commercial settings where the carpet once lasted only about five years, it's now able to stay in use for 10+ years with the addition of a cushioned polyurethane backing, making it a very sustainable solution.
